Leading Telecommunication Companies in China and Korea Use NetScout to Monitor Network Traffic and Segment Utilization

WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 2000-- NetScout Systems (NASDAQ:NTCT) today announced that China Telecom and Samsung SDS have selected NetScout's solutions to monitor customer traffic across their respective local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and server backbone networks. China Telecom is the largest Telecommunications and Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the People's Republic of China. Samsung SDS, a subsidiary of Samsung Group in Korea, is one of the largest ISP, ASP, mobile communication companies, and the largest broadband Internet provider and System Integrator (SI) in Korea.

China Telecom uses NetScout's Gigabit probes to monitor its Guangdong Province ISP backbone network as well as Fast EtherChannel probes to monitor its Cisco Fast EtherChannel utilization. Offering both dial-up and broadband services, its "163 ISP Service" is the largest ISP provided by China Telecom in many major cities in Mainland China.

The ISP and SI (Systems Integration) sectors of Samsung SDS, now split out as Unitel Co. Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Group), have implemented NetScout's LAN and WAN solutions in several Samsung Group subsidiaries to monitor their Frame Relay service and server backbone. They have also deployed NetScout's performance management and monitoring solutions throughout its customer sites.

"In serving the dynamic needs of the telecommunications and service provider markets, these customers contend with multiple and often disparate streams of data," said Anil Singhal, chairman and CEO, NetScout Systems. "NetScout's ability to retrieve this data in real-time is key to providing highly adaptive, pro-active network management consistent with maintaining superior delivery of services."

NetScout plans to expand its reach within Asia-Pacific with a new technical support and training center in Singapore, complementing its operations center in Hong Kong. Both offices will support local and regional customers, partners and resellers with product training, sales support, and related services.
