NETSCOUT Unveils Industry's First Multiport Gigabit Ethernet Probe

09 Jul 2001

WESTFORD, Mass., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- nGenius Probe(TM) 9900 Monitors High-Speed Gigabit Ethernet Links to

Maximize Performance and Cut Costs in

High Performance Enterprise Networks

Continuing its tradition of industry firsts, NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT) today unveiled the nGenius Probe(TM) 9900, giving IT managers extended flexibility to monitor mission-critical Gigabit Ethernet networks.

This latest addition to NetScout's family of data sources, especially suited for high performance Catalyst 6000-based switched backbones, collects information on the performance of Gigabit Ethernet links and provides real- time visibility into the use and performance of the network--broken down by traffic types, applications and users.

Flexibility to Monitor Complex Gigabit Ethernet Deployments
-- Simultaneous monitoring of two independent, full duplex server and/or
inter-switch Gigabit Ethernet links in the same chassis -- well suited
for high-density space requirements. -- Load balancing -- monitoring
two full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet links as a single logical channel. --
Highly available redundant links -- monitoring two full-duplex Gigabit
Ethernet links that are configured for fault tolerance. -- Multi-switch
troubleshooting -- monitoring up to four Gigabit Ethernet switches in a
       cluster configuration.

"Quality of service depends completely upon the quality of management data. The new nGenius multiport Gigabit Ethernet probe broadens the range of probes covering all areas of the network infrastructure, including high-speed backbones," said John McConnell, principal analyst, McConnell Associates. "Adding this information to the NetScout report and analysis suite illuminates a current black hole. A more complete view of infrastructure behavior is a foundation for consistent service quality and availability."

"Gigabit Ethernet links pervade today's enterprise networks in critical areas, including server farms, inter-switch links and data center backbones," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product operations, NetScout Systems. "NetScout's new nGenius Probe 9900 extends our nGenius (TM) solution suite, delivering rich, real-time information that lets customers make the best use of their existing network bandwidth and resources before having to invest in new capacity."

The nGenius Probe(TM) 9900 ships with NetScout's NSP v5.1 firmware and is fully compatible with NetScout's extensive nGenius solution set.

Pricing and Availability

The Multiport Gigabit Ethernet nGenius Probe 9900 is available at $34,995 (multi-mode fiber ports) and at $39,995 (single-mode fiber ports). Both ship today.
