Germany's Second Largest Health Insurance Society Uses NetScout To Improve
Cost Efficiency and Service Quality for LAN & WAN Infrastructure
WESTFORD, Mass., Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems
(Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide network performance
management solutions, today announced that another leading company, Deutsche
Angestellten-Krankenkasse (DAK), has chosen the nGenius(R) Performance
Management System. With 6.5 million insured, DAK is the second largest health
insurance society in Germany. The insurer uses the nGenius(R) Solution for
the centralized monitoring and management of its nationwide LAN/WAN
infrastructure. DAK's data centers in Hamburg provide 16,000 users and 1,000
branch offices with standard office applications and health insurance-specific
applications hosted on several hundred server systems. NetScout's solution
plays a strategically important role in controlling the cost of WAN links for
this large network by ensuring high efficiency and overall quality of network
service.
In 2002, DAK successfully migrated its 3270-type terminals to a Citrix
Thin Client structure, which today encompasses 12,000 terminals and 17,000
network devices. Eleven nGenius(R) Probes were deployed to monitor the WAN
links during the migration. Since then, a further 16 probes have been
deployed within the company's WAN and LAN environments to monitor and
proactively manage the performance of the new network and the response times
of business-critical applications.
DAK has only positive experiences to report: "Without a tool such as the
nGenius System, it would be impossible to monitor the LAN and WAN structure of
an enterprise with 1,000 branch offices efficiently," said Bernd Krause, team
leader, networking, at DAK's Hamburg data center. "NetScout is without a
doubt the best performance management solution for an infrastructure of our
size. It helps us achieve cost control, higher user productivity and clear
information regarding the quality of network service."
DAK contracts with external network providers for the provisioning of WAN
links. The cost of those lines are a major stress on DAK's IT budget, thereby
increasing the importance of the nGenius Solution's ability to independently
validate and report on the network service levels delivered by a provider.
Should data communications be disrupted, NetScout boasts very good analytical
capabilities. Application and network performance problems are solved faster
so employees can more quickly resume productivity. Further, the nGenius
Solution delivers accurate information on network health and resource
consumption to DAK's management team.
"We will continue to update our network in accordance with future
technological innovations, costs and possibilities," continued Krause.
"NetScout will play a major role in our plans and should grow alongside our
infrastructure. We are convinced that our working relationship with NetScout
will continue to be as positive as it always has been. Their support is,
without exception, positive."
"The DAK project reflects upon our growing global business in providing
performance management solutions to the healthcare industry," said Jim Frey,
vice president of marketing at NetScout. "Our nGenius Solution and its
underlying CDM(TM) Architecture offer a high business value proposition to
companies such as DAK by unifying key network performance management
functionalities within a single tool. In addition, NetScout offers investment
protection by assuring that the various types of management data found in
DAK's network and applications infrastructure are leveraged for unified
management decisions."
