Solution Offers Flexible Management of Complex ATM Networks and First
Integrated ATM + LAN Configuration
WESTFORD, Mass., Sept. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide network performance
management solutions, today announced the market's first highly-flexible ATM
monitoring solution for enterprises. The nGenius(R) Two Port T3/E3 ATM Probe
addresses multiple needs for enterprises in an area of the network where
performance and cost-containment are critical. In addition, the new probe
garners several market firsts for NetScout: First, it delivers simultaneous
monitoring of two separate or two redundant wide area T3/E3 ATM circuits.
Second, it delivers simultaneous monitoring of Fast Ethernet LAN and ATM WAN
traffic. Third, it extends security visibility into the WAN by allowing a
network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) to use the probe as means of
accessing WAN traffic. The Fast Ethernet LAN monitoring and NIDS access are
made possible via NetScout's nGenius(R) Flow Director probe options.
The new probe answers a widespread need among large enterprises for cost-
effective management of ATM environments. ATM is increasingly being used in
connecting corporate data centers to remote offices, customers, partners and
vendors. It carries critical applications traffic such as those used for
customer relationship management, ordering and supply chain, and the steadily
growing levels of converged traffic as more enterprises implement Voice and
Video over IP. Due to their critical nature, some enterprises design their
ATM networks with redundant links that add to the complexity of monitoring and
management.
The new probe applies NetScout's link aggregation capability, a standard
feature in NetScout's nGenius(R) solution that displays traffic from redundant
links in a single view, to ATM infrastructure for the first time. For the IT
manager, this feature simplifies an understanding of which traffic is being
successfully delivered regardless of carrier or link. In addition, the ability
to display and report on aggregate or separate ATM links is extremely valuable
for evaluating and justifying the benefits of redundant circuits.
The new nGenius Two Port T3/E3 ATM Probe can also be outfitted with an
nGenius Flow Director, allowing the same probe to monitor Fast Ethernet
switches or inter-switch links or to provide an access point for NIDS. These
cost-effective options deliver tremendous flexibility for managing today's
complex networks and meeting multiple management goals without requiring
multiple products.
nGenius Two Port T3/E3 ATM Probe Benefits:
-- Obtain complete network and application visibility into T3/E3 ATM
circuits to streamline management and optimize performance
-- Reveal how expensive links are utilized at different locations to
assure top applications and top talkers are in line with business
priorities
-- Accurately view traffic being delivered independently and collectively
across redundant link configurations
-- Simultaneously monitor Fast Ethernet LAN switches or inter-switch links
-- Extend security visibility to the edge of the network where traditional
NIDS have lacked sensors and where breaches often originate.
"NetScout keeps upping the ante in value for its customers with each new
product that is delivered on the nGenius Solution architecture, including this
new ATM probe," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst of Infonetics
Research. "With the ATM probe, customers actually gain the functions of more
than one product--more than is typically offered in other solutions. NetScout
is addressing more management issues while improving customers' ability to
find cost savings in their network environments."
nGenius Probes offer high performance, real-time monitoring of all types
of standard, Web-based and complex applications. They collect key performance
metrics such as traffic and application utilization, conversations, error
conditions, response times and go further to provide packet stream collection
for detailed analysis. The probes are an integral component of the nGenius(R)
Performance Management System, which uses information collected from across
the enterprise to address the six key performance management disciplines of
application monitoring, network monitoring, capacity planning,
troubleshooting, fault prevention and service level management.
"This new probe has many exciting benefits that continue to demonstrate
our CDM(TM) strategy of decreasing management data and tool clutter for the
enterprise," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product
operations for NetScout. "This first-to-market LAN/WAN ATM solution also
demonstrates our commitment of delivering both features and cost-savings that
solve our customers' most pressing management needs."
