Premier IT Provider for the Global Airline Industry Says Reactive Tools Lack
Application Visibility and Aren't Cost-Effective for Managing Highly-
Distributed Environments
WESTFORD, Mass., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems
(Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide performance management
solutions announced today that Scandinavian IT Group (a wholly owned
subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines) has chosen NetScout's nGenius(R)
Performance Management System to establish a new, proactive performance
management capability that better meets the real-time needs of its highly-
distributed network. Scandinavian IT Group chose the nGenius solution after
seeing a need to upgrade its performance management capabilities beyond the
reactive troubleshooting tools it had been using. The leading IT provider,
which serves over 80% of the Scandinavian Airlines business, says the high
costs associated with using reactive management tools -- such as pressure on
IT staff to travel to remote sites each time a problem occurred -- and the
need for more complete application visibility, prompted the decision to look
for a proactive monitoring solution.
Scandinavian IT Group is regarded as one of the most advanced IT companies
in its field. With more than 1,200 people and annual revenue exceeding $200
million, the company provides important IT integration and outsourcing
services to the international airline industry, as well as other service-
oriented businesses.
Thor Kingell, operational systems and network manager at Scandinavian IT
Group, explains, "Especially in the last year, we've seen a dramatic increase
in our clients' needs to have critical applications optimized and available at
all times. We were finding that with our highly-distributed infrastructure,
having to send staff out to remote locations with portable analyzer tools each
time there was a slowdown is wasteful of time and money, and not effective for
managing intermittent problems."
As part of a network transition from Frame Relay to an MPLS architecture,
Scandinavian IT Group is using the nGenius solution to increase its proactive
prevention and first-time fix rate of network problems. The operational
systems and network management division standardized on NetScout's nGenius(R)
Performance Manager and its application-aware nGenius(R) Probes to establish
the new capabilities throughout its wide-area network. In addition, the
company reports that the nGenius solution complements its existing management
tools such as HP OpenView and CA Unicenter.
Kingell says, "We are undertaking a critical infrastructure migration
during the most competitive era the airline industry has ever experienced.
Having proactive monitoring and management capabilities in place is a major
requirement for success. NetScout has the most advanced, user-friendly and
cost-competitive solution. We are able to handle the increased task load with
the same amount of people and that simply saves us money."
NetScout's recently-announced nGenius Performance Manager 2.0 is the first
solution in the market to unify the information, features and functions of
multiple performance management disciplines within a single product. It
delivers network and application monitoring, capacity planning and reporting,
troubleshooting, fault prevention and service level management using
enterprise-wide information that has been gathered and stored via NetScout's
patent-pending CDM(TM) technology. Scandinavian IT Group plans to upgrade to
the new version. Kingell adds, "nGenius is helping us improve the overall
success of our network and we are keen to move forward with the upgrade."
Jim Frey, vice president of marketing for NetScout comments, "In this
harsh economic climate, innovative solutions that reduce IT operational costs
are a worthwhile investment. We look forward to helping Scandinavian IT Group
meet its strategic IT goals and to a long-term relationship with this market
leader."
