Sophisticated, Self-learning Analysis Technology Enables
Intelligent, Timely Diagnosis of Application and Network
Performance Problems
WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2006-- NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of
application and network performance management solutions, today
announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the
company a patent for a system that analyzes a data stream for
abnormalities in real time, which is a key technology underpinning
NetScout's nGenius Analytics product.
The patented technology, which came with NetScout's acquisition of
Quantiva in 2005, provides nGenius Analytics the unique capability to
automatically detect traffic flow anomalies and identify the
applications causing them for the purposes of proactive performance
management. nGenius Analytics identifies emerging problems in large
networks and sends alerts to IT managers along with context, so they
can fix performance problems earlier, reducing the impact on business
services.
"This patent demonstrates NetScout's technology depth in advanced
performance management. We are working to automate both proactive
monitoring and fault isolation to empower our users to cope with the
challenges of a faster, highly distributed, and increasingly
virtualized application and infrastructure environment," said Michael
Szabados, senior vice president of product operations at NetScout.
"NetScout's Application Fabric Performance Management strategy builds
on these new achievements in analysis technology, as well as on
real-world customer experience, to help our users shorten the mean
time to repair in their operations departments."
NetScout's approach minimizes false positive alerts by using
probability distribution mapping, which is more sophisticated than
other analysis methods based on simple deviations-from-norm or moving
averages.
Additionally, the patented technology uses multiple sliding
'analysis windows' for analyzing application flow data, to more
effectively detect a wider set of anomalies beyond a simple spike. For
example, nGenius Analytics can catch a gradual increase or upward
'drift' in bandwidth consumption by an application that could indicate
an emerging but serious problem that has not yet come to the attention
of IT staff. The newly patented technology also utilizes self-learning
capabilities which eliminates lengthy and error-prone manual
configuration or training of an analysis system.
The patent, number 7,031,884 B1, was granted to NetScout employees
Ron Hiller and Amin Abdulghani, as well as key contributing consultant
Dragan Radulovic.
