Travelocity Ensures Performance of Leading Business Site With NETSCOUT's nGenius Application Service Level Manager

14 Mar 2001

WESTFORD, Mass., March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT) today announced that Travelocity (Nasdaq: TVLY), the leading travel Web site, is enhancing the online experience of valuable Web-based customers with nGenius Application Service Level Manager(TM). This nGenius(TM) solution enables Travelocity to manage and improve Web-site and application performance by monitoring and reporting on the response times encountered by online customers with each transaction. Transactions include interactions with the site such as logging in, searching for a flight, and making the reservation.

"The performance and reliability of our Web site is critical to Travelocity," said Richard Pendergast, vice president of application development of Travelocity. "The NetScout solution keeps a close watch on our Web site. Its e-mail and paging features ensure that we become immediately aware of anomalies. Additionally, NetScout provides us with the instant feedback when a problem does occur. We count on the nGenius solution to ensure that customers are getting a positive experience when shopping or buying on Travelocity."

NetScout's nGenius Application Service Level Manager provides a "content awareness" feature that allows Travelocity to quickly detect transaction problems by notifying network personnel when there has been a degradation in service either at the server level or somewhere else in the data stream. This combination of intelligent agents and alarm thresholds helps to reinforce service level agreements and monitor all components related to Quality of Service on the site.

"Many of our customers have critical e-business sites that generate large amounts of revenue," said Michael Szabados, senior vice president of product operations, NetScout Systems, Inc. "These sites are highly dependent upon performance for their success. The unique ability of Application Service Level Manager to measure and report on response times occurring at the sub- transaction level adds the granularity needed to optimize the applications and the infrastructure supporting those transactions."

nGenius Application Service Level Manager can be used in conjunction with other nGenius applications to improve performance throughout extended private and Internet-enabled infrastructures - from the back office and production networks to the front-end, customer-facing sites and end users.
