nGenius Saves Casino More than $1 Million in Downtime Through Real-Time
Visibility into Casino's Mission-Critical Network
WESTFORD, Mass., April 1 --
NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT), the leading provider of network
performance management solutions, today announced that Mohegan Sun has
selected NetScout's nGenius(TM) Performance Management System to manage the
extensive networks powering this second-largest casino resort in the nation.
Open around-the-clock and serving more than 40,000 people per day, Mohegan Sun
chose NetScout for its ability to proactively improve uptime and performance
of the casino's mission critical systems-including the performance of
networked gaming systems on the casino floor. nGenius has delivered an
immediate return on investment for Mohegan; it has already saved the casino
more than $1 million in costly downtime and set the stage for a successful
deployment of high-bandwidth guest services, such as high-speed Internet
access and video conferencing.
Mohegan Sun operates 5 million square feet of casino, restaurants and
entertainment complexes, including a new 1,200-guest room hotel and convention
center that are scheduled to open in April of this year. Each of these venues
places unique demand on the network-from the operation of the systems on the
gaming floor, to sophisticated security systems, to bandwidth-intensive guest
services. nGenius provides Mohegan the continuous visibility it needs to
assure performance and efficiency across its infrastructure-including views
into the performance of all business, multimedia and gaming traffic, as well
as the network and its systems-to assure successful operation of these venues,
24-hours a day.
"Anything that could potentially impact our customer's experience is a top
priority to me and my team," said Jake Star, Director of Technical Service at
Mohegan Sun. "We are never closed for business, so we need a solution that
will keep us ahead of problems by providing visibility into every corner of
the network. NetScout's nGenius is the only management tool that lets us see
every conversation crossing the network. It helps us understand what comprises
our traffic and how it impacts performance, system-wide. We would not be able
to maintain the high levels of around-the-clock network performance that we
have, without nGenius."
Mohegan Sun was able to save more than $1 million by leveraging nGenius to
quickly resolve network performance problems that affected gaming systems on
the casino floor. nGenius alerted the casino's IT staff and they were able to
resolve the culprit issues within one hour, as opposed to the four to five
hours it would have taken without NetScout.
Mohegan Sun is also using nGenius information to improve the accuracy of
its capacity planning during network upgrades and expansion. Mohegan's network
recently tripled in scope to support its new hotel and convention center with
new, bandwidth-intensive guest services. nGenius is allowing Mohegan to
better manage the resources of this newer, larger network by revealing the
impact of individual activities on resource utilization, as well as where
existing assets can be leveraged further.
"The nGenius Performance Management System provides higher levels of
service assurance for those enterprises that have no tolerance for downtime,"
said Michael Szabados, Senior Vice President, Product Operations for NetScout.
"The quality and breadth of information delivered through nGenius delivers
substantial payback through reduced infrastructure and bandwidth costs, as
well as mitigation of catastrophic events that can cause revenue loss. Savings
derived through nGenius reaches into the millions through improved
responsiveness and tighter capacity planning over the life of the
infrastructure."
