Defense Intelligence Agency, Jet Propulsion Laboratory and U.S. Coast Guard Assure Vital Networked Services

WESTFORD, Mass., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of network performance management solutions, today announced several Federal agencies that are expanding their nGenius(R) Performance Management System by purchasing upgrades to nGenius(R) Performance Manager and/or additional nGenius(R) Probes. By expanding their NetScout solutions, these agencies are increasing their visibility into network and applications performance to further optimize networked services for end-users.

The Defense Intelligence Agency expanded its NetScout solution to gain further visibility into Fast Ethernet traffic being delivered across its global network. The DIA has more than 100 NetScout probes deployed worldwide to monitor the bandwidth requirements of critical, multimedia applications being delivered across its Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System (JWICS). JWICS is a high-speed network that enables secure intelligence communications, worldwide. In addition, the DIA is using the NetScout solution to collect and feed accurate data into modeling scenarios performed by OPNET Technologies, an nGenius Alliance Partner of NetScout's.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), NASA's lead center for robotic exploration of the solar system, expanded its NetScout solution to increase visibility into the data and applications being delivered across its multi- gigabit internal network. This network supports the delivery of information gathered by JPL cameras, sensors and telescopes to NASA scientists as well as supporting communications with spacecraft engaged in deep space exploration. JPL is using the nGenius solution to proactively assure the performance of networked services by performing base-lining and trending of bandwidth and performance requirements for mission critical applications. In addition, JPL is performing real-time monitoring and troubleshooting to address performance problems in the network before they impact end users.

The U.S. Coast Guard, a military, multi-mission, maritime service within the Department of Homeland Security and one of the nation's five armed services, expanded its nGenius solution to increase visibility into Gigabit and Fast Ethernet traffic in the core network supporting its Washington, D.C. headquarters. The Coast Guard is using nGenius to proactively monitor and assure application performance and network efficiency through measuring application response time on the network, preventing bottlenecks and providing faster troubleshooting. Its network supports its core operations of protecting the public, the environment and U.S. economic and security interests in any maritime region.

"Government agencies are using our nGenius solution to gain visibility into how much their networks are being utilized, by which applications and by which users," said Jim Frey, vice president of marketing, NetScout Systems. "Using this information, they can proactively exert more control over how resources get used, plan more efficiently, address problems before they impact vital operations and accelerate service restoration when problems do occur. As our federal agencies become increasingly reliant on real-time networks for their operations, more and more are turning to NetScout for effective performance management solutions."

The nGenius Performance Management System unifies performance management for the converging enterprise. NetScout's flagship management application, nGenius Performance Manager, leverages the unified data made available through NetScout's patent-pending CDMTM technology to deliver consistent utilization, response time and availability metrics for real-time monitoring and troubleshooting, protocol analysis, capacity planning and historical reporting from a single solution.
