NetScout's CDM Adaptor Integrates sFlow Information from Foundry Switches into
nGenius Solution that Unifies Network and Application Performance Across the
Enterprise
WESTFORD, Mass., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NetScout Systems
(Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide performance management
solutions and Foundry Networks(R) Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), a leading provider of
high-performance switches, routers and Web traffic management solutions, today
announced they are offering an integrated network monitoring and management
solution that will enhance IT managers' abilities to proactively monitor and
optimize network and application performance.
The two companies recently completed testing of the joint solution at the
San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), which used NetScout's new CDM(TM)
Adaptor for sFlow to collect and integrate sFlow into real-time displays and
reports generated by NetScout's nGenius(R) Performance Management System.
Using NetScout's patent-pending CDM technology, the adaptor enables the
statistics to be unified with other network traffic flow information within
the nGenius solution, providing IT managers with efficient and
highly-integrated views of network and application performance. sFlow is a
proposed IETF standard for scalable traffic monitoring and measurement in a
packet-switched network.
The CDM Adaptor for sFlow will ship with NetScout's nGenius(R) Performance
Manager 2.0 and nGenius(R) Probe Firmware 6.0. In addition to sFlow records,
the nGenius solution will collect and integrate other performance metrics from
Foundry switches and routers such as mini-RMON and MIBII interface statistics.
NetScout's CDM technology maps performance data from many different types of
sources into a consistent structure, allowing organizations to extend the
value of their device data by putting it into the context of the entire
network and the business services being delivered.
"In the absence of standards for flow-based statistics, NetScout is
providing a much needed platform for recognizing the various types of
information generated from infrastructure devices," said Kevin Walsh, director
of the Network Performance Reference Laboratory at SDSC. "sFlow is a standard
feature on Foundry Jetcore(TM) devices that reveals conversation-level
details. With the use of this adaptor, IT managers will have a common
platform for utilizing this information along with complementary information
collected by NetScout probes and other sources."
"This solution will provide IT managers a simplified and more
comprehensive window for viewing their network and application performance,"
said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager of Foundry's Enterprise
business unit. "The combination of NetScout's technology with sFlow offers
customers an attractive and cost-effective way to implement high-speed network
and application monitoring, capacity planning, fault prevention and
resolution, and service level management."
"Foundry Networks is leading the adoption of sFlow as a standard.
Together, we're now offering our customers even greater returns on their
existing infrastructure investments," said Bruce Sweet, vice president of
business development at NetScout. "CDM Adaptors are an integral part of our
strategy to provide a more simplified, clutter free environment that helps IT
managers cost-effectively optimize delivery of mission-critical networked
applications."
