nGenius Solution Provides First Look into IMA Segments and Applications; Customers Reap IMA Cost Savings without Sacrificing ManageabilityWESTFORD, Mass., Jul 19, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- NetScout Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NTCT), a leading provider of enterprise-wide network and application
performance management solutions, today announced the market's first solution
for optimizing the performance of applications in wide area networks using
Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) technology. Delivered via NetScout's new
nGenius(R) T1/E1 IMA Probes and NetScout's nGenius(R) Performance Manager
v2.0, the new solution allows enterprises to effectively monitor, troubleshoot
and report on the performance of applications being delivered across IMA
links, as well as manage the performance of those links in conjunction with
the rest of the network.
IMA technology offers enterprises network cost savings by introducing
additional speed choices in between T1/E1 and T3/E3 connections by combining
multiple, lower speed lines into one larger, logical link. Network traffic is
balanced across the multiple segments and recombined at either end. Because of
this, IMA technology creates a blind spot for application performance
management.
Financial Partners, Inc., an IT and other business services outsourcing
department for independent Farm Credit associations coast to coast, uses the
nGenius Solution to manage its business-critical applications being delivered
across IMA circuits to Farm Credit branches located from Maine to California.
"We switched to an IMA service to save costs, but we lost visibility and
control over applications in the transition," said Jim Mileski, systems
administrator for Financial Partners. "After installing the nGenius IMA Probe,
we immediately saw all of the applications that were active on the segments.
We discovered unsanctioned streaming traffic that was straining network
resources by almost 40 percent. We also saw bulk emails that contributed to
bandwidth pressure. Using nGenius, we were also able to correctly prioritize
application traffic for the first time and understand how the network
resources were actually being consumed, enabling us to make better purchasing
and network allocation decisions."
Financial Partners also shares nGenius Performance Manager's NewsPaper
reports with each individual Farm Credit CEO to ensure bandwidth is being
utilized properly across multiple locations and application performance is
always at its best.
The nGenius T1/E1 IMA Probe comes with flexible deployment options to
monitor 4- port or 8-port IMA configurations, or as many as 8 individual ATM
circuits. The probe further extends the reach of NetScout's unique CDM(TM)
Technology, which provides consistent utilization, responsiveness and
availability metrics regardless of the data source or business services being
monitored. This approach allows organizations to consolidate and simplify
network and application performance management across the enterprise.
"We are committed to delivering consistent and comprehensive views of
applications services, regardless of technology used in the WAN," said Michael
Szabados, senior vice president of product operations for NetScout. "This
first-to-market IMA capability allows our users to maintain visibility and
control as they introduce new technologies into their network, and underscores
NetScout's responsiveness to emerging customer needs."
