Enterprises Now Able to Assure the Availability of Performance
Management Solution During Disruptive Events
WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2005-- NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of
network and application performance management solutions, today
announced the release of the nGenius Performance Manager Standby
Server to support its customers' need for high-availability in their
network and application performance management architecture.
Large enterprises have critical and often regulated requirements
for business continuity, including disaster recovery and
high-availability of their business networks and applications. For
many enterprises and governmental agencies, network and application
performance management has become a priority component for protecting
infrastructure operations. With the release of the new standby server
to support the nGenius Solution, NetScout is making it possible for IT
organizations to ensure the functions and benefits of performance
management are available in disaster situations - when they may be
needed most.
Network and application performance management tools such as the
nGenius Solution can help network managers and operations staff keep
close tabs on network and application activity during a crisis, by
showing which systems and applications are on-line, which sites and
users are able to continue to conduct business, and how business
services are performing on backup or redundant networks and systems.
Additionally, after-the-fact network and application activity
reporting can help to demonstrate the success or failure of disaster
recovery operations.
"As recent natural disasters unequivocally pointed out,
enterprises must be vigilant in preparing cohesive business continuity
plans that incorporate network and application performance management
which are even more crucial to assure IT services continuity during
such disruptions," said Jeffrey Nudler, senior analyst with Enterprise
Management Associates. "With the addition of high-availability
capabilities to its nGenius rev 3.1 management solution, NetScout is
serving this market need, enabled by the flexibility and scalability
of the nGenius Performance Manager's distributed architecture."
The nGenius Performance Manager Standby Server maintains a
frequently updated, replicated copy of the primary server's
performance data and configuration settings so that if the primary
server becomes unavailable, the administrator can quickly enable the
standby server to assume control of all performance management
processes.
Potential deployment scenarios for the nGenius Performance Manager
Standby Server include:
- Use at an off-site, redundant data center or network
operations center to which IT staff shift control and
management of their networks and IT systems during a
disruptive event, e.g. a power outage, WAN connectivity loss
such as a cut optical link, or other site-level failure;
- At a geographically distant third-party back-up site hosted by
a business continuity service provider; or
- Co-location with the primary server for on-site redundancy in
case of a localized server hardware or database failure.
"The nGenius Standby Server demonstrates how NetScout continues to
raise the bar for integrated enterprise-class performance management,
our true center of competence," said Michael Szabados, senior vice
president of product operations at NetScout. "This sets us ahead of
alternatives whose bottom-up approach lacks the breadth of data
collection and global analysis that enterprises require. Our
competitive edge is honed by our constant learning with
customer-partners, who rely on us to solve the toughest problems
facing their evolving network and application infrastructures."
Availability, Pricing and Platform Support
The nGenius Performance Manager Standby Server is currently
shipping as software-only for Windows and Solaris servers, as well as
pre-loaded on Windows or Red Hat Linux appliances. Pricing starts at
$25,000.
