Midea Group Deploys nGenius Solution to Improve Capacity Planning; Comprehensive Performance Management System Helps Chinese Conglomerate Save Bandwidth Costs and Optimize Network Resources

18 Sep 2006

WESTFORD, Mass., Sep 18, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of network performance management solutions, today announced that Midea Group, a Chinese conglomerate with its core business in home appliance manufacturing and other operations in real-estate and logistics, has installed NetScout's nGenius Network and Application Performance Management Solution to address one of its most urgent challenges - to control and manage bandwidth growth. Prior to their purchase, Midea Group could not base their bandwidth upgrade decisions on a thorough understanding of their network and application traffic.

"With the nGenius Solution we can now see what applications consume our leased line bandwidth at any point in time and analyze growth trends as well as usage patterns," said a network manager at the Midea Group. "As a result, we know exactly when and how much bandwidth we really need, thus reducing costs and over-provisioning. For example, one of our subsidiaries proposed to purchase more bandwidth before they were to introduce some new applications. However, our analysis showed that the utilization of their leased line was under 70% and would therefore be more than enough bandwidth to handle the additional traffic. By deciding not to upgrade the bandwidth at this point, we optimized network resources and saved money."

Midea Group also values the Chinese version of the nGenius Performance Manager for its customizable and flexible reports that they can share not only within the network administrator team but also with corporate executives to support, among other things, their capacity planning decisions.

One of the largest home appliance manufacturers in China with revenues of nearly 50 billion RMB and 30% average annual growth rate, Midea Group must efficiently leverage networking technology to service its 70,000 employees and 10 manufacturing bases. The backbone network is located at its headquarters in Shunde, Guangdong Province is connected via leased lines with more 60 manufacturing facilities, subsidiaries, and regional offices. As Midea Group's network expanded and networked applications increased, they realized that they needed to augment network administrators' experience and rudimentary management tools to effectively manage network growth.

After evaluating several vendors, Midea Group chose NetScout's nGenius Solution for its integration of multiple performance management functions into a single unified product and its ability to collect and analyze performance information from different data sources. "The nGenius Solution's ability to aggregate NetFlow data and present it in context of information from other data sources provides us with comprehensive insight into our network," said the network manager at the Midea Group. "Furthermore, all functions are included in one package; there are no additional or hidden costs."

"Manufacturers like Midea Group are discovering the value of the nGenius Solution to assure their business services while controlling network costs," said Jim Frey, vice president of marketing at NetScout. "With the adoption of new technologies and applications such as VoIP and ERP, manufacturers need to proactively manage the growth of their network resources and enhance the performance of network and applications to avoid bottlenecks and eliminate the cost of unnecessary infrastructure upgrades."
