WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2006--NetScout Systems,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), a leading provider of application and network
performance management solutions, today announced that PolyOne
Corporation, a $2.5 billion international polymer services company, is
using the nGenius(R) Solution to help ensure the quality of IT
services, productivity and cost efficiency across 92 sites worldwide.
PolyOne, headquartered in Avon Lake, Ohio, manufactures
proprietary and custom compounds, color and additives for more than
10,000 customers in 35 countries in industries such as automotive,
building materials and computer equipment. Its IT network supports
more than 5,000 employees in North and South America, Europe, Asia,
the Middle East and Australia.
PolyOne is using the nGenius Solution to manage performance of its
worldwide SAP system across the corporate network. The SAP system
integrates manufacturing, warehousing, shipping and sales operations
for PolyOne's broad range of commodity and specialty products. PolyOne
also uses the nGenius Performance Manager's response time and alarming
capabilities to meet guaranteed internal service level agreements for
sub-second SAP response time.
"SAP is the backbone of PolyOne, allowing us to take, make, ship,
and bill orders, and if we miss any one of these steps because our
network is down or congested, that is a direct, negative impact on our
business," said Dick Bradner, enterprise network manager at PolyOne.
"NetScout's network and application performance management products
help us ensure the efficient delivery of business services 24 hours a
day."
With the distributed nGenius Probes that are a part of the nGenius
Solution, PolyOne is addressing a number of key performance management
issues, such as monitoring traffic on remote sites, identifying
non-business related traffic and capacity planning. For example,
PolyOne's IT group has used the nGenius Solution to:
- Pinpoint saturated VPN circuits at a site in Turkey and
provide justification to convert them to Frame Relay, cutting
network outages to zero;
- Identify periods of low network activity to optimally schedule
bandwidth-intensive system backups;
- Manage live, global video broadcasts by monitoring remote
sites, and adjusting traffic as necessary to ensure successful
delivery of the broadcast and avoid degradation in business
application performance;
- Prove the need to double bandwidth at a large manufacturing
site in Texas by sharing reports with evidence of network
saturation and congestion;
- Eliminate an internal SPAM problem at a remote site by
identifying a rogue workstation acting as a SPAM server; and
- Track non-business streaming media, such as the NCAA March
Madness tournament, to discourage recreational use of the
network and maintain available bandwidth for business
applications.
"Our ability to fully leverage the nGenius Solution has been a
major factor in PolyOne's successful evolution to service-level
management, significantly reducing IT troubleshooting times and costly
service degradations, which were necessary to meet SLAs," said
Bradner.
In addition, to maximize ROI and improve collaboration between IT
departments, PolyOne trained more than 60 IT personnel on the nGenius
Solution. The result is increased information sharing by taking
advantage of the nGenius Solution's intuitive real-time and historical
analysis capabilities. Productivity has also improved since the
various IT groups, including applications programmers, can now
proactively diagnose problems in their own areas of responsibility.
"PolyOne's implementation is an excellent example of how
enterprises can use NetScout's nGenius Solution to assure the
performance of critical applications like SAP," said Eileen Haggerty,
director of solutions marketing at NetScout. "In addition to
optimizing operational responsiveness to performance issues, PolyOne
is fully leveraging the rich application-aware data provided by the
nGenius Solution to achieve a proactive stance towards managing and
protecting IT service levels."
