Chinese Utility Company Purchases nGenius Performance Management
System to Gain Comprehensive Real-Time and Historical Analysis of
Business Services Running on its MPLS VPN
WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2007--NetScout Systems,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NTCT), the industry pacesetter for advanced network and
service assurance solutions, today announced that Jiangmen Power
Supply Bureau, a subsidiary of Guangdong Power Grid Corp and part of
China Southern Power Grid, has deployed the nGenius(R) Performance
Management Solution to monitor business traffic and reduce Mean Time
to Repair (MTTR).
Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau is responsible for supplying electric
power to more than four million people in the City of Jiangmen,
Guangdong Province, China. In order to use the network to more
effectively support business operations and expansion, the bureau's IT
department recently consolidated all key business data in a
centralized data center and established an MPLS VPN network that
allows different business applications to run on different VPNs.
Serving more than 5000 internal users, the network connects the
backbone links to a few dozen remote sites, including retail branch
offices throughout the city. Because critical business applications
used by production, office administration, retail sales, and finance
depend on this network, the bureau's IT department is faced with a
daunting challenge to rapidly identify and troubleshoot network and
application performance issues. With a limited number of network
administrators, they urgently need a comprehensive solution to
continuously monitor the MPLS VPN and the data center.
After evaluating several vendors, Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau
chose NetScout's nGenius Solution. With nGenius(R) Application Fabric
Monitor and nGenius(R) Performance Manager, the Bureau is able to
integrate real-time monitoring, packet recording and forensic
analysis, and historical analysis into one single solution. "The
nGenius System is a very comprehensive troubleshooting solution," said
Hu Shaoqiang, the Director of IT at Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau.
"With NetScout tools, we are able to monitor and analyze business
application traffic running through our MPLS VPNs. We now have
visibility into all applications, get alarms for abnormal performance
such as error conditions, packet loss, or slow response time, and are
able to resolve problems before they impact users. NetScout's rich
historical data with one-millisecond granularity and the nGenius
Application Fabric Monitor's capabilities of doing both real-time flow
monitoring and deep-dive packet analysis enable us to diagnose
performance problems accurately and rapidly so as to reduce Mean Time
to Repair and more effectively plan network capacity. The most
important and immediate benefit we gain from the nGenius Solution is
the ability to identify and troubleshoot network and application
performance issues, and hence assure business services."
Another reason why Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau chose the nGenius
Solution is its tight integration with IBM Tivoli. The Bureau's IT
staff can have a consolidated view of NetScout's application-level
monitoring and analysis and Tivoli's intelligence of the systems, and
thus more quickly and effectively locate and troubleshoot service
degradations.
"Joining a growing number of enterprises in all major vertical
markets, Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau takes advantage of the nGenius
Solution to quickly troubleshoot performance issues and assure
business services," said Eileen Haggerty, director of solutions
marketing at NetScout. "NetScout's performance management capabilities
can enable enterprises like Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau to better
deliver business services and enhance customer satisfaction as they
adopt new technologies such as MPLS and introduce more complex
business applications."
