Strategic Partnership Allows Customers to Answer Critical Questions about Application Performance over the WAN; Provides Insight into the Benefits and ROI of WDS Deployments
WESTFORD, Mass. & SAN FRANCISCO, Jun 16, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NetScout Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTCT), the industry leader in
advanced network and application performance management, and Riverbed
Technology (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in
wide-area data services (WDS), today announced they have entered into
a strategic partnership to provide Riverbed(R) customers with
comprehensive network and application visibility.
Through this partnership, customers will be able to answer
critical questions regarding the performance of applications over the
WAN. NetScout has extended its nGenius(R) Performance Management
system to support the signaling protocol used among Steelhead(R)
appliances. This allows enterprises to collect the same detailed
information about the impact and performance of Steelhead appliances
as they do other key pieces of IT infrastructure.
The two companies are also engaging in joint sales and marketing
efforts. NetScout has joined the Riverbed Technology Alliance (RTA)
program, a group of complementary technology companies who share a
common vision of accelerating data and application performance and
delivering significant savings as customers increasingly use wide area
networks (WANs) to enable global business.
Global organizations have long relied on WANs to deliver complex,
distributed enterprise applications that help grow revenue, reduce
operating costs, or both. In such environments, specific application
response times, overall network performance, as well as end-user
experience are all indications of whether a company's applications are
delivering the value intended. By bringing together NetScout's nGenius
Performance Management system and Riverbed Steelhead appliances,
network operations teams have the tools necessary to establish
baseline performance of the network and its applications both pre- and
post-acceleration. Using this data, organizations can best evaluate
the full benefits that Riverbed WDS solutions deliver. Additionally,
the comprehensive visibility into network and application performance
delivered by NetScout offers enterprises a better understanding of how
specific applications behave when accelerated and can be used to
identify the WAN segments that will most benefit from acceleration
using Riverbed Steelhead appliances.
"This represents the next wave of differentiation and maturity in
the market," said Peter Sevcik, of industry analyst firm NetForecast.
"Enterprises need application acceleration, visibility and management.
This is an important step toward being able to deliver
application-level SLAs."
"When talking about networks and applications, everything is
interconnected and changes made in one area can have an unintended
impact in another," explained Bruce Sweet, vice president of business
development at NetScout. "Through our partnership with Riverbed, we
are giving our joint customers a way to fully understand and quantify
the efforts to accelerate applications over the WAN."
"As organizations build global business strategies, the network
becomes critical in supporting growth. By partnering with NetScout,
our customers are provided a powerful tool to increase visibility into
the performance of their applications over the WAN," said Alan
Saldich, vice president of product marketing and alliances at
Riverbed. "Enterprises can now leverage end-to-end network management,
resulting in an increased ability to analyze, manage, optimize and
accelerate business applications over the WAN."
