Taiwan Mobile Meets Smart Phone Customer Expectations with NETSCOUT Service Delivery Management Solution

Critical Visibility Provided by nGenius Service Assurance Solution Delivers Billing Accuracy and Optimum Network Performance

WESTFORD, Mass., Apr 21, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --NetScout Systems, Inc. today announced that Taiwan Mobile, the country's second largest mobile service provider, has deployed the nGenius(R) Service Assurance Solution across its network. As a leading provider of smart phones and mobile business services in Taiwan, the operator required a scalable approach which could enable consistent network performance and user experience for high bandwidth data services, as well as assistance with billing mediation for roaming customers.

Since 2004, Taiwan Mobile has invested approximately $311 million in third-generation (3G) infrastructure. To help keep the operator's complex service delivery environment performing at peak levels, Taiwan Mobile turned to NetScout and the company's nGenius Service Assurance Solution. Taiwan Mobile is using the nGenius solution to monitor the network's gateway GPRS support node (GGSN), HTTP traffic, 3GPP performance, and DNS servers to determine how the increase in subscriber data traffic and new 3G services are impacting overall operations, and respond accordingly to deliver optimum network performance and meet customer expectations. Additionally, Taiwan Mobile is able to take advantage of the predictive capabilities of the nGenius solution to spot anomalous behavior and in many cases, resolve the situation before subscribers are impacted.

Taiwan Mobile is also relying upon NetScout to maximize revenue opportunities from the operator's roaming agreements and inter-exchange traffic with other carriers. Taiwan Mobile utilizes the nGenius Service Assurance Solution to monitor roaming traffic and capture performance data on the operator's network as well as on roaming partner networks, and compare performance levels. Taiwan Mobile is also able to determine the various volumes of roaming traffic on different networks, and adjust roaming rates accordingly.

In addition, nGenius supports Taiwan Mobile in the important task of billing mediation associated with roaming customers. The nGenius Service Assurance Solution is able to capture and validate traffic traversing the GGSN, and the devices which support subscriber authentication and chargeback functions. By providing billing mediation data which verifies that charges which are billed to customers or passed along to other carriers are properly accounted for, the nGenius solution has become a critical component in the mobile carrier's Operation Support System (OSS) infrastructure.
